Painting Minis - What do you need?

So you want to start painting minis and ask yourself what you need for that? Today we are giving you a list of tools you need to start painting miniatures.

Miniatures

Of course, if you want to paint minis you need minis. There are many places to buy fantastic miniatures. You can get them online and in-store. Just make sure to buy them in the correct size. There are many different sizes and shapes for Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures. Choose one and stick to it. A BBEG can be taller than other miniatures. For starters don’t begin with an extremely detailed and big miniature. They are complicated and you can mess them up easily. Start with some basic miniatures where it isn’t too bad if you mess up. Here are some possible miniatures for starters.

Acrylic Paint

To paint your minis you need the right paint. We recommend using acrylic paint. There are sets of paints, especially for D&D miniatures. However, normal acrylic paint works too. Consider buying shadow colors for the shadow parts of your figure. Also, consider buying highlight colors to highlight parts of your miniature. These are some advanced techniques and there is no need.

Brushes

Brushes are needed to paint your miniatures. Choose the smallest brushes you can find, as you need to paint tiny details. You can paint bigger parts with a small brush but can’t paint small parts with a big brush.

That’s basically it. There are some professional tools like a painting handle or a magnifying glass for painting. However, you don’t need it and you are good to go with the 3 items we showed you.
